Digging our first bed/hugel/swale went quite well, but we’re going to need some serious muscle to get the rest of the land in shape. We’re going to be headed out there again this Saturday, February 18th, at noon to do some more damage. What this means is that you and your hossiest friends should grab your shovels and come out and help us. Not only will you be helping a good cause, but you’ll get to put in some good manual labor and all of your meals that day will taste extra delicious because you earned them.

Are you guys adding hot (ie. very fresh) manure to the mix when you cover up the wood?
Nope, not yet — just throwing the dirt back on, and tilling the area next to the bed (that will eventually become a mulch path) for added top soil. I hear some folks add compost/manure on it, but it seems like for as many folks do things one way, there are just as many that don’t. Up for trying it though. Also want to do some really big giant beds!
